A new year, a new decade – how exciting!
Even more so – you’re getting married!!!
In case you’re wondering if there are any INs and OUTs for this upcoming wedding season, we assure you – there definitely are.
At DIDEA we prefer focusing on the positive things, so here’s a list of the top 5 destination wedding trends that will definitely help you rock a Dominican destination wedding in style.
Even though you may already be familiar with some of them, these trends have the potential to stay relevant throughout the twenties and we couldn’t be more excited because we absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE all of them!
1. BOLD COLORS
Destination weddings in the Caribbean allow you to experiment with decoration and colors more than any other location.
Implementing strong, vibrant and rich colors will add to the beauty of your wedding, mesmerize everyone and create that breath-taking impact you most certainly want.
Even if you consider yourself an old-school type of gal going for the classic white, blush and/or golden decoration you can still allow yourself to dip into at least one strong color to emphasize a detail or two.
Remember – having your destination wedding in the Dominican Republic means you already have the perfect backdrop. Coloring it up is not only going to make your wedding stylish, it will also make it stand out.
Mixing and matching 2-3 bold colors also expresses your creativity and helps you personalize everything.
2. GEOMETRIC ARCHES
There is a new perspective for destination wedding ceremonies in the Dominican Republic.
Circles, hexagons, triangles… geometric wedding arches will definitely mark this new 2020 and the twenties.
No mater what they’re made of and decorated with, they are here to break the rules and make an eye-catching change to the destination wedding ceremony of your dreams!
If you’re hesitant to implement this trend to your ceremony though, you can always find a way to somewhat spice up the good old rectangular arch.
Decorating it with tropical leaf greenery, feathers or rich color flowers is another way of following this super awesome trend without having to give up the classy old ways.
3. UNPLUGGED WEDDINGS
This is not a new trend, but it’s definitely becoming a must-do on your destination wedding in the Dominican Republic as more and more couples turn to it.
Yes – cell phones and social media allow us to show everyone where we are, what we do and that we’re having the times of our lives!
But they are also a big distraction – people get carried away forgetting to simply relax and enjoy the experience.
Staying present and enjoying the moment is what every wedding should be about.
If you feel your guests need a reminder that cell phones are a no-no on your wedding day, by all means let them know.
Especially after planning for a long time from afar, flying to your favorite Dominican destination and finally being able to savor the day you have all the right in the world to simply ban cell phones and even cameras on your wedding day.
Hire a photographer and a videographer and let them take care of all the coverage.
You’ll definitely thank yourself once it’s all over. (and hopefully thank us for telling you about this super awesome trend)
4. POLAROID PHOTO GUESTBOOK
The polaroid trend on destination weddings in the Dominican Republic started some 3-4 years ago. As you may remember it was very popular to snap a photo, write a message on it and simply stick it on a photo wall or a wire using clips.
Photos were strained for everyone to see, it looked very cute and added to the decor.
In 2020 the use of polaroid cameras is making a comeback in a different way and it’s here to stay!
Polaroid photo guestbooks are a fun and original way for each guest to place their freshly-taken photo inside using self-adhesive corners and write a heart-felt message using special metallic marker pens.
The design of the photo guestbook cover can be 100% personalized to include your names, wedding date and location and the inside paper comes in different colors and textures.
Even though this trend is not new to many, the polaroid guestbook is an opportunity to re-live your wedding memories in a good old-fashioned way and that’s exactly why it’s so hard to resist it.
5. ECO-CONCIOUS DECORATION
This last one is a destination wedding trend we should all be following.
Planning your wedding with the environment in mind and creating as little waste as possible on the actual wedding day is the trend of the decade!
There are some amazing alternative ways of decorating your wedding, from using coconuts, pineapples and other tropical fruits for centerpieces to rose petals as confetti, bamboo straws to reduce plastic and so much more.
We even did a whole separate blog post on eco-friendly weddings
as an inspiration to all the environment-conscious couples out there.
To sum up:
The 5 trends of 2020 are a great guide for planning a destination wedding in the Dominican Republic.
It’s obvious most of these trends invite you to experiment, make changes and do things differently.
Be bold and whichever venue or wedding package you choose – make sure you implement at least one of them.
As long as you’re true to yourself and your vision, you’ll have the most wonderful wedding in the Dominican Republic.
